PORTFOLIO: Architectural Rendering DESN 110

2D ON 3D:
In this assignment, we got into groups and Chad St John and I had to use painters tape on two or more surfaces to make a full image go together and look like one surface from a certain view point. This assignment was actually kind of difficult, we had to get the angle of the line perfect, even the slightest tilt of a line made it not match up. On top of actually doing the assignment and doing a paragraph summing up our thoughts, we had to do a sketchbook entry of out view of the project. I have all displayed below.

This is my sketchbook entry of the project, we did a triangle on three differetnt surfaces: a pole, a wall, and a window.
This is a picture of the project itself.
This is a video to show how the perspective changes as you walk by.
This is the poster that was next to our project on display to tell people the main ideas.
Midterm Project: The Sullivan House
This project was challenging for me, but i was very proud of how welli actually did, not having very much experience with SketchUp. One of the main focuses for this project was color and texture, which i believe this is my best house on that aspect this semester. We also had to add a walkway and certain entourage. Another requirement for this project was that we have a top and front view. I started out with the floor plan in AutoCAD and had to scale it and import it into SketchUp. From there I built my house and established a front and top view. I then imported those view into layout where I labled everything. Below I have the main parts of the Sullivan House Project.
This is the floorplan i had to scale up in AutoCAD.
This is the background image that I used for my front view.
This is my Rendered Front View of the Sullivan House.
This is the Top View/ Floor Plan.
Those two views were then put into SkecthUp Layout, and turned in that way.
Final Project: Marcel Breuer House
This was by far the most difficult assignment of the semester. I had alot of trouble building the house because of the slanted roof and the walls were all different heighths. The main focus of this project was supposed to be the rendering part. Our instructor wanted us to focus on making the color go well together, and positioning our entourage in a way that was appealing. I did focus on that but i think that the whole class realized the design itself was the most difficult and time consuming. In this project, just like the Midterm, we had to scale up the floor plan in AutoCAD. However, for this project we had to have a Top, Front, and Section View in SketchUp, then in SkecthUp Layout. I did alot better with texture, and different materials in this project than i have previously. And I am prouf of what i accomplished in a such a short amount of time. Below will be the main parts of the Marcel Breuer House.

SketchBook Entries (Top Five):
These are my five favorite skecthbook entries from this semester.

1 Point Perspective:
These were the parameters I was given:

1pt Perspective
Sketch* a 1pt perspective of a room in your house. Repeat the sketch on a second page
Use various principles 1-16
*Quickly, loosely, creatively

In this entry, I did two skecthes of my bedroom. The first one was my first attempt. I focused on the details more in this one, for example, the superman poster. However, in the second one i got the perspective to look more accurate. I used; continous lines, overlapping corners, and repeating lines in this entry.
Materials used:
Shapie Pen and Sketchbook
Each Hand:
These were the parameters I was given:

Each Hand
Draw the same sketch two times - once with each hand.
Use various principles 1-16

In this entry, I did two sketches of my tv stand . The top drawing was done with my left hand, and the bottom was done with my right hand. I honeslty like the left hand one better. It has more character. I am very surprised that you can tell what it is since I did it with my left hand. I like the right hand one better on the fact that it has alot more detail to it.
Materials used:
Sharpie Pen and Sketchbook

Upside Down:
These are the parameters I was given:

Upside Down
Choose an architectural image to draw (from magazines like Dwell, Architectural Record, etc.). Turn the image & your sketchbook upside down & quickly draw what you see! Keep the lines loose & sketchy. The goal is to keep the proportions - not to have perfect lines.
tape or glue a copy of the original image to a sheet in your sketchbook & cite the source
Use various principles 1-16

On the top is a the image I drew from a magazine, and the bottom is the skecth I did of it. I looked at the image turned upside down and drew it as i saw it, then turned it over and it was pretty close to the actual image. The reason I chose this image was because I liked the curvature of the lines.
Materials used:
Shapie Pen, Sketchbook, and Magazine Picture

Multi-Media
These are the parameters I was given:

Mixed Media & Color
Make a sketch using mixed media & color from your week off! Think outside the box! Sketch, paint, collage, etc
Use various principles

I used Oil Pastels and my Sharpie Pen to draw my view out of my back window from my Thanksgiving Break. This is where my kitchen is so this is where I was most of my break. I have woods in my back yard with a stone walkway that leads to it. I love all of the pretty fall colors in this, and I love using oil pastels.
Materials Used:
Sharpie Pen, Oil Pastels, SketchBook

Analytique:
These were the parameters I was given:

Analytique
Draw quick sketces of the plan, section and a perspective of an existing building - composed as an analytique on one page of your sketchbook.
Use various mediums discussed in this course
Use various principles (lines, composition, color, entourage, etc.)

I did an analytique of my home using Charcoal. An analytique is a sort of collage that you can use as your layout, instead of just having everything neatly organized in seperate parts. There is alot of overlapping and different concepts in one. I really liked the way this turned out and I think it is appealing, caotic, yet readable to the viewer.
Materials used:
Charcoal, and SketchBook
